PROJECTS

MarPipe

MarPipe (www.marpipe.eu/) is a consortium that aims to discover and further develop lead compounds with anticancer and anti-infective activity. ABS-int leads work package number 6 within MarPipe to better align science, policy, law and entrepreneurship linked to marine drug discovery. By combining elements of three distinct fields of expertise (law, policy and business) and understanding their mutual impact, we aim to provide new insight into factors that may promote a more enabling environment for efficiency and success throughout the marine biodiscovery pipeline.

PHARMASEA

Funded under the European Union FP7 programme, the PharmaSea Project focuses on biodiscovery research and the development and commercialisation of new substances from marine organisms. ABS-int assisted the project as a legal partner, helping scientific partners obtain sampling and ABS permits in 13 countries.

EU COMMISSION ABS TRAINING

ABS-int assisted the EU Commission in providing nine training workshops to ABS stakeholders.

PHD PROJECT ON ABS MODELS

With the aim of ensuring the sustainability of ABS-int’s innovative and well-informed approach, ABS-int’s legal advisor, Aysegul Sirakaya, is currently working on a PhD project (in collaboration with Ghent University) to create mutually-supportive ABS systems by bringing down transaction costs.
